Watch for changes in mental behavior
Most young children/teens have trouble identifying when they are under stress. A common symptom of stress is a change in behavior/ attitude. If you notice that someone is complaining more then usual about school, and not partaking in activities they normally find fun and enjoyable, then this person might be dealing with stress. In general, if you notice someone is acting completely different then their normal self, they could be dealing with stress. Negative changes in behavior are almost always a clear indication that something is wrong.

Watch for changes in physical behavior
Stress can also appear in physical symptoms such as headaches or stomach cramps. If you notice someone talk about how little sleep they got, or how little they ate, or there is an increase in the amount of complaints about a certain situation, like a test or quiz, that person may be suffering from stress.
Interactions with others (More for Parents/ Guardians)
Sometimes a child or teen may seem like his or her usual self at home but be acting out in unusual ways in other settings. It is important for parents to keep in contact with one another so that they can come to know how child or teen is doing in the world around them. In addition to communicating with other parents, being in contact with their students teachers, administrators at their school and leaders of any extracurricular activities their child is involved with can help parents tap into their child or teen’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and be aware of any sources of concern.
Also, if someone stops talking as much, stress could be the reason behind it.
